MRI Studies that support Breast Cancer Screening

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Early Detection

The purpose of breast screening is to find tumors as early as possible,
when they are small. The smaller the tumor, the better the chance of successful treatment.

Well Known Risk Factors

  1. BRCA gene carrier
  2. Family history or breast/ovarian cancer
  3. Personal history of breast cancer

New Research

“Women with dense breasts are 5 times more likely to develop cancer than those whose breasts that have a lot of fatty tissue”
The Globe and Mail, January 18, from research published in the New England Journal of Medicine

The Advantage of CADstream

Underlining MRI Plus’s commitment to providing the best care in women’s health, every breast MRI study performed at MRI Plus is processed with CADstream, a computer-aided-detection (CAD) system for breast MRI, providing improved analysis and reporting, allowing radiologists to read breast MRI more efficiently and consistently. MRI Plus is the only center in the Ottawa region offering this advantage.

Dr. Roberto Wee, M.D., Medical Director of MRI Plus: “The integration of breast MR and CADstream into our breast imaging program keeps our practice on the cutting edge and offers our patients the best chance at early detection and treatment. Streamlining and standardizing the analysis and reporting of a study with CADstream ultimately will make our breast MRI program more efficient.”

The computer-aided-detection technology makes the exam more practical. MRI has become an important breast imaging modality, helping many women be diagnosed earlier and have more information for treatment decisions, but in the past was limited due to the time needed to manually interpret the 2,000+ images a breast MRI generates.
