Good news! No special preparation is needed. Eat and take any prescribed medication as usual, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
When you arrive for your MRI appointment, you will need to provide certain information and then be shown to a change room where comfortable loungewear will be provided, or if you wish, you can bring your own metal-free clothing.
Once you have changed, our technologist will lie you down on a comfortable padded table. As your exam begins, this table will move into the wide opening of our MRI system. We will ask you to remain as still as possible during the exam to ensure the best quality images.
The MRI exam itself is painless – you won’t feel a thing. The machine does make a knocking noise as each image is taken. We will provide you with earplugs to help block out the noise.
The length of your exam will depend on the type of study your doctor has ordered. In many cases, MRI patients are scanned and on their way home within an hour. Our radiologist will review the images from your exam and a detailed report of the findings will be faxed to your physician within 2 business days.
Because MRI Plus’ radiologists are not familiar with your medical history, it is in your best interest to discuss your diagnostic imaging needs and exam results with your own doctor. There will not be an opportunity for you to discuss the results with our radiologists during your appointment.
If you have any previous exam results, x-ray films or CDs that will be relevant to your MRI exam, please bring them with you to your appointment. |
